Recommended Workflows

Common scan-to-action patterns your agent can follow

scan_page -> wait_for_job -> optimize missing entities with minimal sentence edits

scan_page -> wait_for_job -> turn internal_linking recommendations into an internal linking plan

scan_page -> wait_for_job -> improve vague sub-headlines with high-priority entities

scan_page -> wait_for_job -> review who/what/where/how authority gaps

scan_page_deep -> wait_for_job -> build a competitor gap action plan

scan_page_deep -> wait_for_job -> compare serp_speed_benchmark vs top 3 competitors and prioritize page-experience fixes

Scans are asynchronous and typically take 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Your agent uses wait_for_job automatically to poll for results.

FAQ

Common questions about the On-Page MCP connector

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI agents connect to external tools. Once connected, your agent can run SEO scans, extract entities, and optimize content without leaving the conversation.

Which AI agents are supported?

Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, VS Code (Copilot), Cursor, Windsurf, and Cline. Any MCP-compatible client can connect using the HTTP transport.

How long do scans take?

Standard and deep scans are asynchronous. They typically take 30 seconds to 3 minutes depending on server load. Your agent handles the waiting automatically.

What languages are supported?

English is the only officially supported language. You are free to try French, Spanish, and German, but they are unsupported and results may vary.

My connection isn't working

Make sure your API key is correct and has not been revoked. The MCP server URL is https://api.on-page.ai/mcp with HTTP transport. Check that your agent is sending the Authorization: Bearer header.

How do I uninstall the MCP connector?

For Claude Code or OpenAI Codex, the easiest option is usually to ask the AI agent to remove the connector from its own MCP configuration. Paste this prompt into the client where you installed On-Page SEO, then let the agent update its MCP settings.

How do credits work?

Each tool call costs a set number of credits (e.g., 2 credits for a standard scan). Your agent can check the balance with check_credits before starting. Visit the Billing page to top up.

Can I rotate or revoke my API key?

Yes — go to the API Keys page to delete an existing key and create a new one. Update the key in your agent configuration after rotating.
